The Blackhawk Musky Club was founded by Al Hermanson in an effort to bring together people interested in musky fishing. The club is based out of Janesville, WI but its membership is open to anyone. Club activities include outings in northern Wisconsin, mini-outings in the Madison area, pre-outing/business meetings in Janesville, Take-A-Kid Fishing Day, an ice fishing derby, a spring seminar, and an annual awards banquet. The meetings and outings provide an opportunity for members to fish with new partners, learn about patterns on new lakes, and share successful strategies. Annual memberships in the Blackhawk Musky Club are available at very affordable rates ($15 Family, $10 Single, and $1 Junior).

Blackhawk Musky Club is the primary sponsor of the annual Take-A-Kid Fishing Day held early each June at Traxler Park in Janesville to promote fishing among kids who might not otherwise have any exposure to the sport. The event annually draws about 150 excited kids who eagerly follow instructions from participating club members. Prizes are awarded in a number of categories. The Club works closely with area businesses, including Gander Mountain, the City of Janesville Parks and Recreation Department, Rock River Marina, Pizza Hut, Old Country Buffet, U-Catch'em Bait and Tackle, Water's Edge Bait and Tackle, Roherty's Restaurant, Crime Stoppers, and Suick Lures to offer a high quality event that kids look forward to.

Club members are also active in making fishing presentations at local elementary schools where students and their parents learn about all kinds of fishing and where to go locally to "catch the big ones".

One additional benefit of club membership is the availability of college scholarships funded by the club. All members are eligible to apply.

Each year, the Blackhawk Musky Club participates in a number of fund raisers for the purchase of young muskies to be stocked in south-central Wisconsin lakes. Fund raisers include the raffle of a new, fully rigged Ranger boat and various raffles at the business meetings and annual awards banquet.
